The title is going to sound a lot more fun than this post.
Went to starbucks at like .. 7pm, and finally learned how to make starbucks coffee taste legitimate, since if you order normal coffee half of the time it's all watered down tasting. Just get a hot triple Americano ... which the guy will feel the need to tell you is just a medium Americano ... i don't really see the huge difference in whether I say triple or medium since it's the same thing ... except that he wanted to make me feel like a coffee noob, which I don't mind being ... since I'm not some barista .. anyway that thought sort of went on for a while.
Went to see Jonathan Franzen at the Mondavi Center, campus's big sort of theatre. To be honest I haven't read any of his books or any of his short stories or journalism, I just know that he's a pretty prevalent author so I was like what the heck tickets are 50% off for students, I'll go see him. It was actually a lot of fun, in a sense of the word that isn't probably the commonly used fun ... but more of I didn't have this awful feeling of hatred after going. Like when I go to the movies sometimes it's like, wtf ... guy in line whose like spitting and swearing, or like wtf movie i paid money to see but has less story line than most hentai, (that's a joke I seriously don't watch), but yeah. Or like every time I go out i'm assaulted by huge lines, overpriced tickets, bad parking and a general feeling that the world is going down the drain.
I watched a recent, I think recent episode of South Park, about Stan seeing everything as shit, it was an incredibly deep and poignant episode, it's just a shame most people who watch it probably won't really think it was much, and people who should watch it probably will never watch South Park.
But what made it fun was that it was mostly old people, like seriously, I can't say how much more enjoyable old people are for me than a theatre of kids who are yelling out things. I know I sound like I think I'm better, or whatever, but it's not that at all. I've just been having this horrible week where all the stupid kids keep raising their hands and make me listen to their incoherent ramble instead of hearing the teacher who I'm paying money to learn from, and of course every English teacher has to say, well that's a valid point ... I've only had like two teachers who I LOVED, who would lay the smack down on people, like shut the eff up and do your contextual homework, now sit down ... because kids seem to forget that when you're reading freaking 18th century literature maybe words meant different things!! And there's no effing way the writer wrote to a modern day audience, since they wouldn't even know we'd freaking exist like we do.
Anyway ... since no one flames me ... I get to sort of pretend like people care when I write here ha.
But here's a good video I found while sort of video surfing ... let it or don't let it change the way you feel about the world ...

I have never been a real coffee person. Too long to prepare. I only made coffee if I had an exam sometime afterward that I procrastinate better with the production of joe. Smells great though, just too lazy to make and then drink.
South Park has a lot of deep shit. You just gotta see it past the drunken, drugged up blur its made out to be. I'll have to go look for this ep you're talking about. Trying to watch from beginning on netflix... think I'm at 102 lol.
I assume the 4th para is backtracking to para #2? I don't know how your classes are mostly set up, but for me, the basic courses are always full of idiots. I swear they're probably there for my entertainment if anything. Being basic, the courses were designed to be more of a "teach yourself" with slight guidance... Actually that describes most of my college courses except those Psychology courses where the profs get to rant on their favorite subjects.
Anyway, can't relate too much to your post this time around lol. Not the outgoing type I used to be. Haven't seen a movie in 6+ months, play in 2+ years.

I seriously don't like going out to movies anymore, 98% chance of a shitty movie and the popcorn is sooo expensive.
BUT I do want to see one movie and if it sucks I'll be SO SAD. The In Time, it looks so cool
Yeah but I've never been to a play there before so it was sort of a new thing for me too.
I heard Umi is back on AO ...

Yeah I know, she should at least have a blog and tell us about her daily life, she wouldn't even need to respond to comments. She could pretend the rest of us don't exist, but I seriously wake up somedays from a violent AO dream, in which I'm a pirate captain and my exorcist is my first mate who has a eye patch and the ... what's it called when it's not binoculars but only one lens. anyway ... oh i never finished that thoguht, I seriously wake up, try to calculate time difference between Hong Kong and here, imagine Umi in a black A-line pencil skirt, with a yui type white shirt, you know the sort of frill ruffle down the middle, and maybe a pair of glasses which she pulls out when she's hard at work over papers, ... and yeah ... she has a sling black purse, it's not really a purse it can also hold larger notebooks and things. But it'd be nice to know what really goes on.
I wish she would. Someone go bother her too because I'd really like to know the mudane details of her life, like seriously, that's 100% serious
ON a side note, finally watched this one ... let me go see what the name is .. Morita something, they're the three minute episodes ... and the intro takes up 36 seconds ... but yeah, so funny ha.
ok i'm too lazy to look it upz

Asa, it sounds like you have too much expectation for Umi, tbh lol. She should just come by and say HI every now and then imo. 1 eyed lens = monocle. Actually, my girlfriend is studying abroad on a program called semester at sea. Studying on a cruise ship around the world... more like vacation around the world with minimal studying in between. Dunno if I shared that tidbit of info, but she should be stopping by China in a few weeks. Would it be a strange request from her boyfriend to ask her to visit an internet friend from ways back XD
Still no anime for me. Keeping up to date to select few mangas. Video games galore while searching for job and studying for Pharm Tech. GoW3. Cousin got me it. Bought it for like $50 and sold the collectible XBL Avatar item for like $35 and something else lol... pretty much $10 for the game. And then he's asking me to send it into Amazon for the turn-in value which is around $35 atm... so net profit $25? Facepalm. Gotta beat the game and get all the achievos quick!

But get better Asa!!!! More anime to remedy your unwell feeling.

So I decided to try and apply to some MFAs, which has been completely anxiety ridden because since applying to college I haven't really applied for anything.
So I had to start looking at my GPA, etc. Getting my best stories in place, asking for THREE recommendations, which was literally the seemingly most difficult part of the process (ongoing process).
Anyway.
It feels weird because now I have all this anxiety about wanting to get in. But the literal odds for the top ones are like, 600 applications for 6-10 spots. And every single spot is tuition waived and the ones I'm applying to all give stipends of like 15,000-17,000, 25,000 in Texas. So that's like money for apartments and stuff. So it's like getting to write for free for 2-3 years.
If I apply to Texas I have to take a GRE too. Bleh, GRE ... Got to go look into that now too. Sipping some boba! There's this place in the plaza literally across the way from me, but it's like entering a foreign land, SO FOBBY up in there.
Anyway -- Im' pretty tired. I hit the gym earlier this morning, did like so many reps, took up space amongst people using 50-80 pound weights, while me and my roommate lugged 3-8 pound ones.
I want to sleep or do some leisurely reading, but this is my leisurely time! Forums! Actually I get like tons of sleep, it's insane. Every poll I read has people sleeping like 4-5 hours, I do like 8 on a normal basis.

Yeah, LORs are retarded. Nobody knows me. I don't understand how I'm supposed to be able to get them if I haven't worked and done some real jobs with real people... I hear the GRE isn't that difficult. I mean, tons of my friends have passed it and I think my intellect surpasses many of them easily. Texas is gooooood. Cuz I'm here. Thats pretty much it. Nah, huge ass state with shitton to do if you know where to look. So if you do come here, I'm pretty sure you'd enjoy your time outside of writing.
So yeah, similar to yourself, I've been having some anxiety bs too. Being unemployed and tired of doing online applications that I never hear back from, I might consider going to get a masters also. I haven't looked too much into it honestly but I can't imagine it being more difficult than professional schooling. I still think LORs is the toughest part still. Another thing I miss about school was working out "for free" seeing as how the fee is covered in tuition and whatnot. Too lazy to work out by buying membership. Sigh, I hate being a waste. But I guess I'll fill out some more applications and try for in-person interviews. Can't look me in the face and say there aren't any jobs available -.- Put together some half-ass resumes and line up for more volunteer work.
Lemme know how it goes with your decision for grad. school. Real world sucks, thats for sure though.

Yeah I don't think I'd fare very well in the real world. I got my LORs, mostly I think because fellow writers (my past teachers) are all pretty quick to not want to reject anything anybody asks, mostly because rejection is so frequent in all other aspects of writers' lives haha.
But yeah I do remember just trying to get a part-time job and being rejected many many times. Then like, almost not taking the one job I was offered cause it seemed sort of sketchy, but it ended up being okay ha. But I do remember being 16 and being offered two jobs when I had 0 experience and the personality of a multiple personality disordered teenager. Which actually doesn't seem that far from most of the people who I see having jobs, which I myself managed not to get.
Yeah, me and my roommate are actually paying for our personal training, but I sort of like it cause it sort of forces me into the gym at least three times a week now, well once to do training and two other times to do the workout he makes for us. Otherwise it's seriously too intimidating to go into the weight room, especially since the girls in the weight room are all way more intense than the guys.
Yeah I know I did an interview for Macy's once and they let me do the whole interview when I'm sure they weren't going to hire me even before I came in. Why do they always ask if you know someone who works at Macys? Are they just going to ask from within the store anyway?
Anyway going to meet with an old teacher tomorrow. Talk to her about MFAs ... it's sort of depressing to see 600-900 applications sent in and 5-10 spots. But the tuition is covered for all the schools I'm applying for ... and you get living stipends ... like I've already said, so I'm hoping they're all really terrible applications. HAHA. I don't know my teachers kept telling me, "don't sell yourself short," but it's the only way i've gotten through life with a semblence of confidence. If I have to believe the movie is going to be good when I go to the ovepriced theatres I'd probably have to kill myself because they've all been pretty horrible. In Time looks like the best movie since Tron (entertainment and interesting storywise) but the main person is Justin Timberlake ... I don't know and I think amanda Seyfried is a pretty horrible actress ... Mean Girls was her best movie. Red Riding Hood ... almost made me light the theatre on fire. It felt like there was intentional effort to make it a bad movie -- even if they were on crack while making it it's still be much more interesting.
Anyway -- I'm pretty crappy at living on four hours of sleep. I basically just drank espressos throughout the day -- and ate a twix bar, wore my shoulders out ... my roommate almost killed herself because she was doing those things where you put your arms like sort of backwards on the chair or bench and you just lower and raise yourself --- but she kept saying it was too easy so we went to one of those things where you fold your legs behind you and you're in the air pulling yourself up and down ... but like she screamed and fell down when the trainer told her to lower herself ... she could have hit her head. And all of his music was for some TRX, or RXT class he teaches so the beats were all really like really fast, anyway -- My days should get a little better after I do my application stuff -- I dont have any papers due for a little. I do have a midterm.
Is there anything you can do to not feel like a waste? I know -- it sort of feels weird, because in our time and day it almost feels like doing nothing automatically means you're wasting resources. Planetary wise it'd probably be better if a lot of people just didn't live ... Not you -- other people. Like this douche in my writing class, who for some reason things work shopping is stupid and other people are stupid, but he applied to be in a class which basically exists to hear other people's reading of your writing. so the whole thing was weird. Plus he's a chain smoker. Anyone who still smokes, I don't know -- how can you be under 30 and put a cigarette in your mouth, at least do like weed or something, but cigarettes are just gross. The black lungs photographs really got me -- seriously. When my friend started smokign I sent her pictures of them like everyday. We're not friends anymore, but who knows ha.

gotta love the interviews nowadays, "we're sorry, we're looking for someone with experience" and you end up sitting there thinking to yourself, wow this makes it the 5th time I've heard that, how the fuck does one obtain experience if you dirty bitch niggas don't give me a chance
about the confidence thing, its not exactly easy to get others to understand my mindset when it comes to it but i'll try to explain it anyways
no matter what happens you must always keep a positive mindset and learn from things you experience, everything i get into i tell myself things are going to go well because i am a capable person and that i understand that no matter what i do, i will be successful and i truly believe this, however i also understand that this is also a big excuse for being so damn lazy and is also a thin layer that conceals my fears of failure and rejection
i hope that makes sense
and the last thing of note is the guy in your class, you should always try your best to take it as it is, and to be a good observer of things
no matter how ridiculous or retarded something someone mentions, its good to try to understand the mindset of others. although it may be a bit hypocritical of me to say this since i still believe that the stupidity of people knows no limits, but i try
and yea ciggs are bad, my brother actually picked it up and trying to get him to stop now but that's a long story (about our discussion on how he picked it up)

I was mostly just complaining, the guy doesn't really bother me. It's just he sort of avoids doing the more group aspect of things, and even with a wide mind-set about people, which I seriously know is best to apply -- there's a certain work shop decorum that he willfully refuses to partake in. Like always having to make comments that seem to imply he's a lot more serious than the rest of us, like he's a lot deeper than us. It just seems like in a class where close to 50 people apply for 17 seats, if he didn't want to be there he doesn't have to. And when people spend time going through your story and giving feedback and then you sort of don't treat them with the same quality of effort, it does get on my nerves a little.
Yeah I have to do that too (confidence wise). A lot of things I just have to say, I did my part and then let it into the universe. Especially with writing and stuff --
My roommate is doing an internship at RiteAid, (for pharmacy) I don't know if they have those in Texas. Lol, that's probably really ignorant of me -- but we had this whole class debacle about PG&E the other day, since my teacher was from Texas, and he didn't know what it was -- so now I can't really be sure about anything.
I don't know if she gets paid or whatnot -- English isn't her first language so some finer details get lost in the conversation.
Got to study for midterm -- I've gotten semi behind on reading, but these MFA applications are really screwing with my catch-up on class stuff time.
The new iphone update sucks or I suck, cause I had the volume off and my phone still went off during class and I didn't think it was mine at first because ... it was on SILENT!
